Still aren't following me on Twitter? What are you waiting for?
The title should probably read, “Why I don’t Believe In A Balanced Life All The Time.” I believe that most of our lives should be lived in balance. Work and play, ying and yang. But when you have a goal, balance should go out the window.
Here’s why:
- If Arnold Schwarzenneger believed in balance he wouldn’t have worked out 5 hours a day and won 7 Mr. Universe titles.
- If John Frusciante believed in balance he never would have spent 14 hours a day playing guitar in his room. Where would we be without the Chili Peppers?
- If Bill Gates believed in balance he never would have spent 18 hours a day developing Microsoft and producing the computer you’re reading this on right now. (Note: get a Mac loser).
- If LeBron James believed in balance he wouldn’t have taken the NBA by storm as an 18 year old.
- If I believed in balance I wouldn’t have saved money like a crazy man for 10 months and then wound up exploring South America and pursing my dreams.
You can have your ying and yang but while you’re working on a goal, either the ying will dominate or yang will dominate. Once your goal is completed, then it’s time to back off.
What I’m about to say might surprise you…
I’m going to break my no drinking rule. I’ll post my results from my sobriety test and tell you why I’m breaking (bending & justifying) it in part 2 tomorrow.
Stumble upon it

If Hitler had believed in a balanced life, he wouldn’t have brutally tortured and killed millions of people.
(note: way to grotesquely overspend on a computer that is hip and shiny but takes you to the same internet i am currently using…loser).
Your title is misleading.
I don’t think the Hitler reference is a good argument.
I can see what you’re saying about the Mac. I just love it a lot more than any PC I’ve ever had. It’s much more user friendly and no-viruses. But me loving Macs might have something to do with my mind needing to justify the money spent.
What about the title is misleading? I clarify it in the first sentence.
Not to be a Mac whore, but my Macbook Pro is in it’s fourth year and still as shiny and fast as the day I bought it, even with a ton of programs installed.. No PC notebook ever did that for me (or most of my friends), they’d all be super slow, virused, or broken by year 2-3.
