Here is something a lot of people don’t want you to know: if you want to truly transform your life or accomplish a goal, it’s going to take extreme focused effort to do it. Baby steps wont cut it.
When it’s very uncomfortable is when it benefits us the most.
Most marketers and companies tell us what we want to hear. We can get 6 pack abs with only 7 minutes of work a day. “Do it the lazy man’s way.”
The real reason most of us just spin our wheels and never get anywhere is because we take this slow approach. We go slow because it’s comfortable. It only hurts a little. It doesn’t hurt a lot. And then we give up when we don’t start seeing drastic results.
On the flip side, we wont start anything if it’s too difficult or is too uncomfortable to begin with. That’s why marketers must tell us what we want to hear. Otherwise we wont buy the product or service to begin with.
So how do we motivate ourselves into doing something uncomfortable…
We Get Pissed
If there’s something we want we have to get pissed off. We need to get forced into action.
A good way to get pissed is to surround ourselves with people or things that represent what we want to be. A person that makes me mad is Tim Ferriss of the Four Hour Work Week. He lives an incredibly interesting life (from appearances sake at least – Tim is one of the better marketers out there I believe). I make sure I read I his blog and everything he publishes because it makes me mad that I’m not on his level yet.
(Author Note: The name ‘The Four Hour Work Week’ is a bit misleading. It’s about freeing up time in your professional life to do the things you want in your personal life. It’s not about being lazy.)
The Secret To Accomplishing Goals
It’s not a secret: work hard and smart. The difficult work is going to come in the beginning. Only when that’s over is it just a matter of maintainance. That’s when you take it slow and steady.
