Still aren't following me on Twitter? What are you waiting for?
Before I left on my trip I was undecided on what type of pants to buy. I considered the zip-off pant/short combination thing but I thought a) that’s so stereotypical backpacker and b) it just looks retarded.
I’ve owned zip-off pants in the past and I’ll be the first to admit that they are handy. But the big zipper line makes you look like a tool. Definitely not club-ing pants.
My challenge was to find a pair of pants that could meet the demands of traveling and be somewhat fashionable. And I think I found them.
Meet the Exofficio Nomad Pant.
Good for trekking.
Good for the club.
Here is why they are so cool.
1) Fashionable
I had the pant legs tailored (6 bucks) because before they were too long and baggy. Now they’re perfect. At first glance they look like regular khaki pants. And khaki pants are very cool to have in the warm weather climates I’ve been traveling through. I just make sure to wear lots of white and black clothing to complement the khaki color.
2) Functional
There’s a zipper pocket on the right hand side, below the regular pocket, that is hid pretty well. It’s a fairly decent sized pocket that I place my video camera or other important things in. The zipper definitely helps with security and functionality.
3) Light weight material
The ExOfficio’s are 100% nylon. I haven’t had a winter this year so I’ve only been in hot places. The light weight nylon has been perfect.
4) Water & stain resistant
The pants are treated with Teflon, making them just as waterproof as their zip-off counterparts.
The only two downsides to these pants.
1) They aren’t zip off.
2) There’s only one back pocket.
A shot for the ladies.
They were my only pair of pants for 4 months through Panama and Colombia and they’ve held up perfectly. If it weren’t for a friend that brought me some jeans from home, I’d still be wearing them exclusively.
So there you have it travelers and nomads - your *almost* perfect pair of travel pants.
