My Live Uncomfortably 30 Day Challenge

Word Count: 428

Still aren't following me on Twitter? What are you waiting for?

Over the past 5 some months I’ve had some of the greatest times in my life. For example:

  • I gained 10 lbs of muscle in 7 weeks of workouts in Panama.
  • I gained at least 5 lbs of fat and lost some of that muscle navigating the night life in Buenos Aires (they don’t leave the house to go out until 2 AM).
  • I went to Colombia and met probably the nicest people I’ve met anywhere.
  • I’ve jumped off some cliffs, rafted, and discovered a love of ultra-light go-kart racing.

But what I’ve failed to do is update this blog. And I really don’t have a lot of excuses. Although I’ve been doing a lot of really fun things, I’ve had down time in which I could put together a post. But I haven’t done it.

This is where the 30 day challenge comes in. The concept is literally everywhere on the internet. From Zen Habits, to Steve Pavlina, to the actual 30 Day Challenge, it’s a classic method for developing lasting habits.

So, I’m going to challenge myself to write a blog post every day for the next 30 days. No excuses. I’m just going to write. I’ll write about self-improvement. Funny stories from my travels. And any other insights I might think are worth while.

After the 30 days

People that complete a 30 day challenge consistently say that once the 30 days are up, the habit is difficult to stop / or easy to continue. I’m not saying after the 30 days that I’ll keep writing posts everyday, but I’d love to update it at least a 4-5 times a week. The 30 days will be a warm-up and help me develop the habit of writing something everyday.

My goals for this blog

I’ve been thinking a lot about ‘value.’ I constantly ask myself, “What can I offer this world that will have value in people’s lives?” I believe the ‘live uncomfortably’ motto is valuable. I think people can benefit and grow with this message. And I intend to spread the word. I’d love to inspire people to experiment with their own fears and perceptions. Life is much more fun this way.

Other things

To my faithful readers: are there any kinds of ‘live uncomfortably’ experiments you’d like me to try? For example, something along the lines of my barbershop experience.

Although I heard ‘Yes Sir’ was terrible, the idea is incredible. It would be extremely uncomfortable and scary to say ‘yes’ to everything. Any ideas for something similar? I have time to devote to a project like this.

Thanks for reading. And look for something tomorrow.

-Derek
