Still aren't following me on Twitter? What are you waiting for?
As I write this I’m super hungry. The pang is evident and pulsing. But in my kitchen the light has decided not to come on. Some nights it sparks to life, others it’s emo and remains dark and cold. Since the first night I’ve been here my landlady has said she’s going to buy a new light bulb to fix it. But she hasn’t and now it’s directly affecting my ability to cook.
Every few days I’ll come into kitchen and find her small frame tip-toed on a wooden chair inspecting the light. She’ll look down at me, smile, sigh, and ask me “Why?” with her eyes. I wish I didn’t care about people otherwise I’d sarcastically nod my head, say “Yeah, because it’s fucking broken. Here’s a funny idea - buy a new one!” start laughing hysterically, and run out of the apartment never to come back again.
My landlady owns two apartments in the building I’m in. Before I moved in, I had two options:
1) live on the 6th floor with a young group of mixed cultures - 2 Chileans and 1 Ecuadorian.
2) Live on the 11th floor with the landlady and a student from Holland.
I chose the 2nd option for one reason and one reason only.
Most People Never Do What They Say They’re Going To Do
And this is especially true of landlords.
On the sixth floor there is no wifi internet. There’s only one cable that one computer can plug into. I told the landlady that I needed internet because I wanted to work a bit during my month stay here. She calmly assured me that the internet would be working on the sixth floor apartment soon because she was going to buy a router the next day.
Of course I’m smart and I knew better. I decided the 11th floor was the best option.
If you promise something, deliver it. It’s that simple. When you deliver everyone’s happy. In fact, now-a-days, everyone is impressed.
If you’re not sure whether or not you’re going to do it, don’t say anything at all. And if you say you’re going to do something and know that you NEED to do it (like fix a light blub), just know that there’s people out there like me hating your inability to get things done.
Stumble upon it

Cooking in the dark sometimes produces the best meals.
