27 Things I’ve Learned While Traveling

  1. There are good and bad people everywhere, in every race, in every culture, and in every city.
  2. The United States isn’t a bad place.
  3. You’re never going to date a supermodel (or even a beautiful woman) if you never talk to one in the first place.
  4. You’re never to go to live your dream unless you start living it. And you’ll never start your own business unless you start your own business.
  5. Doing is more important than thinking about doing.
  6. You don’t need more than 10 items in your wardrobe to get women.
  7. You don’t need more than 1 bag full of possessions to live a great life.
  8. Us USAsians can eat a lot of food.
  9. Middle and upper class white girls drink a lot more alcohol than their South American equivalents.
  10. Self-Improvement is just another term for learning from life experiences.
  11. Music makes me happier than almost anything.
  12. Real men can dance.
  13. There is no wrong or right course in life. It’s all about you. Don’t let anyone tell you the path you’ve taken or are taking is wrong if you’re happy.
  14. We are living in utopia right now.
  15. You don’t need a cell phone, but it’s easier to get laid if you do.
  16. Self discipline makes me happy.

  18. We are all living in cages that our fear has created. If you want to get out you have to face those fears. The outside world is incredible.

  20. Confidence is more attractive than beauty.
  21. My life has been comparatively easy but…
  22. There are always battles in life no matter what your position. It’s all about your outlook.
  23. Money is NOT the root of all evil. The desire of money for nothing is the root of evil.

  1. Fantastic post, Derek. I just stumbled across your blog and have been living the “uncomfortable” life philosophy since last year. It’s the only way to roll!

  3. Great post.

#19 is really relevant to my situation right now. Very shy and friendless in a new city on the opposite side of the world, I will definitely keep this in mind!

  4. Dude, this is a good list. I’ve got a version of this going in my head. Keep up the good living. I’m an American living in China right now, almost two years in. I think we’ve had a lot of similar experiences and revelations. I’m 20 days into a no alcohol, caffiene, sugar, masturbation, etc. deal (17 to go) and I’m am 24 year old business owner. Life is the best adventure I can imagine. I disagree on one point: your masterpiece is a masterpiece during every moment of your life, those moments are just like different angles from which to view it.

  5. Couldn’t agree more with no. 7!
After experiencing the art of a backpacking, you realize that you don’t need much to be happy! It’s the beauty of it all!

  6. I really enjoyed reading these points and seeing things from your perspective. Refreshing. Yes, confidence is most definitely more attractive than beauty. Good Humour is just about the most attractive thing to me.
